On Sat 25 October, I took part in the Reform UK Action Day with my local branch. It was a chance to meet people in the community, sign up new members and discuss the direction the country's going in.
Well done, it’s so important that people are willing to engage publicly in this way. Even your rude young man may at least have taken away a tiny seed of doubt, maybe the first time he’s heard someone from outside his bubble.
Thank you, Louise. I'm actually really glad I took part and that I was able to talk to people and at the very least just raise awareness by being there with the other Reform UK members. It felt like a real privilege. It was a bit of a shock to the system hearing some of the responses, especially his, but as you say a seed may have been planted. I don't think he'd ever be convinced to vote anything other than Green, which is fine, but I do hope it changes his attitude towards others with different political views.
Well done, Anna. I think the only way through this is to stay calm and be charming because it is impossible to reason with zealots. Long term, we must return to proper education where all views are aired at a young age and, just as importantly, listened to and then discussed. This is how a society blossoms, not through labelling people and ill manners.
Thank you, Denise. I always like seeing your comments on my posts because you're so encouraging and speak a lot of sense! I agree whole-heartedly with all you say.
Although these kinds of interactions tend to throw me off my stride, I do always want to try to be courteous because that's how I like to be treated.
It doesn't take much really to be civil and it generally makes life more pleasurable and flow more smoothly. I wish more people understood that.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks, Martin.
